Happy Father's Day!

Daughter # 1 sent her father salmon and fish eggs for Father's Day and Daughter # 3 served them up today. We had salmon for lunch and ikura (the Japanized Russian word for fish eggs) for supper.

Ikura Donburi (Fish Eggs on Rice)

Now the interesting thing is that my usually co-operative (you'll notice he's co-operative not adventurous! - he's from a Southern Ontario farm family) husband refused to eat the fish eggs (too fishy) and what did he eat instead? Natto! (Fermented beans - the stuff that most foreigners HATE to eat.)

I cannot say I am into fish eggs, but I would rather that than Natto any day.

God Bless

I'm with Daddy on this one . . . I love natto, but ikura I can do without!

When did you get the new dishes? I'm starting to wonder if I will even recognize the place when I get home.
By the way, HAPPY FATHER'S DAY daddy. I tried to phone but you guys were out.

hehe, happy Fathers Day Uncle John.
I think I'll Agree with Matthew on that. But If Uncle John prefers Natto to fish eggs. Well I am glad he enjoyed them

I like both ikura and natto, although I think I like the ikura better.

I will confess, though, that they were both acquired tastes. I was unwilling to be just another natto-hating gaijin!

Sawa Babe,
The only new dishes are the bowls. They were given us by Yuko who, I think, got them from the bank or something. Anyway, they're very nice!
