The measure of a man

"You can tell the measure of a man by how much it takes to discourage him."
I looked this up so that I could credit the author, but a number of people seem to have said this in a lot of different ways.

I was thinking about it today. Why do people give up so easily on things they should stick to like glue... and then, conversely, refuse to give up on ideas that are obviously - to every one looking on - not worth it. Sometime even positively wrong.

O, for discernment!

I believe the answer to your question is called "the path of least resistance".

In itself it is both the reason and the means for compromise.

I convicted myself of doing this during chapel just now.
