Thinking does not play well on television,
a fact that television directors discovered long ago.
There is not much to see in it.
It is, in a phrase, not a performing art.
-Neil Postman in Amusing Ourselves to Death
How is it possible to read the story of Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 18, 19) and not realize that Sodom and Gomorrah are cities?! I find this lapse of understanding amazing (appalling?) However, last night not just one but two people in my small group Bible study said that, although they had heard the story before, up until now they had always thought that Sodom and Gomorrah were people.
Try reading the story with Sodom and Gomorrah being people instead of cities - I don't see how it is logically possible to mix them up. Perhaps Postman was right about our image based society and what television has done to shape its thinking? ? ?

I can see by the photo how these college kids are fixed on performing "art." Life as performance. It's really great to see how you've been given the opportunity to work with them, though.
Yes, it IS a great opportunity. And I do love working with them - even if they don't always make connections immediately.
