Taro Kimura - Aomori's representative in the Japanese Diet
I see his face often enough on poster boards all over the prefecture... but I wasn't expecting to see him at the Kite Festival. I suppose his black suit should have tipped me off - and the fact that he was shaking hands with so many people.We both watched each other surreptitiously for awhile and finally started talking. He said his wife is from Ajigasawa. When I asked him who he was his eyes widened and he asked incredulously, as he handed me his business card, "You really don't know who I am?"
Of course, I knew him as soon as I read his name - and was duly embarressed.

Got pretty bashed up. The wind kept whipping it into the ground.
There were some rather novel entries ... although the Europeans told me that they weren't able to bring out their best kites because the wind was so tempermental.

Wow! So you actually had a conversation with Kimura Taro:) I only got to shake his hand. If you look in my junior high year book there is a picture of him shaking hands with our Kimura Taro.
The kites look spectaculare.
If only he wore a wrestling mask like that politician in the Iwate prefecutural assembly; then, I think, I would have recognized him.
Ouch! Our lack of interest in politics gets us in as much trouble as our lack of interest in golf (or celebrities- right ,Luke?)
The kites were spectacular, Mary. And I actually did know who he was, John. I was just expecting him to be about 20 years older - and I didn't expect to ever actually meet him!
And David, what on earth are you talking about?! That's a story I haven't heard. (You know, I really miss all your rambling stories and odd facts.)

Hey, how did I miss this post!? Anyway, thanks for the heads up. I had no clue who Kimura Taro was, but now I am better prepared for a chance meeting with him than I was for my first Britney siting :)
