What I read on the airplane...

As many lonely and embattled Christians know in our own day, it can be strenuous and demanding to live before an Audience of One. Making unpopular stands or speaking uncomfortable words on his behalf can be painful to the point
of anguish.

- Os Guinness

I just finished rereading Os Guinness' book, Prophetic Untimeliness: A Challenge to the Idol of Revelance. I read it the first time on the airplane coming back to Japan and it gripped me so deeply that I read the entire book on that flight. (Its the first time I didn't watch a stream of useless movies on the trans-Pacific flight.)

There's just something that reading a good book gives you that watching a movie will never acheive. I remember taking an entire saturday to ready 'The Great Divorce', and then the next week moved on to 'Mere Christianity'. Truly a life changing time. I've never read Os Guinness, but the leading quote is interesting enough to check it out. :)

Do check it out! Os Guinness is well worth reading. I think my favorites of his books are "The Call" and "Dining With the Devil" but this one was good - and a good quick read. Except I usually have to read him twice to really take it in!

And yes, movie fans though we may be... there is indeed something in a book that never translates into a movie. I've had some really memorable reads both in solitude and in groups
