Silver Moon

Spring... and we are walking outdoors again. In deference to our dog we've given up walking over the hill and through the center of town - so that we can take her with us. We walk along the river and as you know, if you were watching the sky, the weather was fine at full moon this month. It was SO BEAUTIFUL!

I've always loved long walks in the moonlight. Perhaps John Masefield did, too. When one of my friends commented, "...seems like a lot of moonlighting is going on over there!" I thought of this poem my older children memorized in High School.

SILVER

Slowly, silently, now the moon
Walks the night in her silver shoon;
This way, and that, she peers, and sees
Silver fruit upon silver trees;
One by one the casements catch
Her beams beneath the silvery thatch;
Couched in his kennel, like a log,
With paws of silver sleeps the dog;
From their shadowy cote the white breasts peep
Of doves in a silver-feathered sleep;
A harvest mouse goes scampering by,
With silver claws, and silver eye;
And moveless fish in the water gleam,
By silver reeds in a silver stream.

- Walter de la Mare. 1873-1956

I've never managed to take a good moonlight photo with my camera. So you'll just have to take your own walk in the moonlight!

That's a nice photo. And it reminds me... I think I might actually have some of the same scene. But maybe its minus the moon...
